Agrapart & Fils Crus Brut

Agrapart & Fils Crus Brut is the estate’s seven-village Brut Champagne, combining predominantly Chardonnay with a smaller share of Pinot Noir for an accessible introduction to this admired Avize grower.

The best way to discover Agrapart is to begin with the breadth of its vineyards before exploring the precision of its individual sites. Crus Brut, commonly offered as 7 Crus, brings together fruit from seven villages, giving a panoramic introduction to a grower whose more specialised Champagnes can become strikingly specific. The estate is based in Avize, at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, and is now presented under the Champagne Pascal Agrapart name. Pascal and Ambroise Agrapart work approximately twelve hectares, chiefly in Chardonnay-planted Grand Cru villages, and the house makes its Champagne from its own grapes. There is a tangible sense of the vineyard as the starting point, even in a cuvée that deliberately draws from more than one place. This Brut is based predominantly on Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir also contributing to the blend. That combination is revealing. Chardonnay is central to the Agrapart identity, while the inclusion of Pinot Noir makes 7 Crus a broader expression than the pure Chardonnay wines further up the range. The seven-village idea is not a claim that every component tastes the same; it is an invitation to consider how different origins can be brought together into a coherent Champagne. Agrapart’s vineyard and cellar work has a distinctive character. The domaine ploughs its vines, uses local-ingredient compost and bottles, hand-riddles and finishes its wines without fining or filtration. Those choices belong to a philosophy that values the character of the raw material rather than polishing each wine into anonymity. For buyers, 7 Crus is the gateway. Terroirs moves into Chardonnay from four Grand Cru villages, giving a more tightly focused geographical comparison. Complantée explores a field blend of several grape varieties, while Minéral and Avizoise invite a comparison of different geological expressions. Vénus goes further still, isolating one small parcel in Avize. Open Crus Brut with an aperitif, a light first course or simply to understand why this grower has such a devoted following. It is inviting without being simplistic: the accessible beginning of a range in which differences of place become increasingly fascinating.
