Bollinger Special Cuvée

Bollinger Special Cuvée is the natural place to begin with one of Champagne's most distinctive houses. This multi-vintage Brut combines 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier, placing the grape most associated with Bollinger firmly in the lead. It is a familiar name, but the care devoted to reserve wines gives the bottle more substance than mere recognition. Founded in Aÿ in 1829, Bollinger remains a family-controlled Champagne house with a significant vineyard estate of approximately 180 hectares. A high proportion of its holdings lie in Grand and Premier Cru locations. Pinot Noir is central to the vineyards, including sites around Aÿ and Verzenay, while Chardonnay from Cuis and Meunier from Champvoisy contribute to the wider house story. The reserve-wine approach is particularly important for Special Cuvée. Bollinger keeps selected wines separately by village and year, including an extraordinary collection aged in magnums. Reserve wines form the majority of the blend, and at least 10% of the wine comes from reserves stored in magnum. This is a practical way of bringing maturity and continuity to a Champagne intended to express the house across changing harvests. The dosage is stated at approximately 7–8 g/L, firmly within the Brut category. Special Cuvée also provides a reference against which to explore the rest of the range. Bollinger Rosé offers a different occasion and colour, while the PN series takes Pinot Noir into numbered, more specifically defined expressions. La Grande Année moves towards vintage wine and old-oak vinification; R.D. is the choice for buyers especially interested in lengthy maturation and more recent disgorgement.
