Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2004
2004
Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2004 is the house’s prestige vintage rosé from the 2004 harvest, bringing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir together in a carefully selected Champagne for a special table and thoughtful cellaring decisions.
Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2004 occupies a very different place in the house’s range from its familiar non-vintage Cuvée Rosé. Alexandra is the prestige vintage expression, made only in selected harvest years. The 2004 on this bottle is therefore not a decorative detail: it identifies a particular season, release and stage of maturity.
The wine brings Chardonnay and Pinot Noir together in a rosé Champagne drawn from Grand Cru origins. That combination is central to Alexandra’s identity. It is not simply a pink counterpart to a standard brut, nor should it be confused with Laurent-Perrier’s non-vintage Cuvée Rosé, whose approach places Pinot Noir maceration at the centre of the style. Alexandra asks to be considered as a vintage wine in its own right.
Laurent-Perrier is based in Tours-sur-Marne and has long made blending a defining strength. Its Grand Siècle cuvées assemble different harvest years in search of a particular balance; Alexandra Rosé takes another route by concentrating attention on one year. For the buyer, that difference matters more than any ranking based on price alone. Choose Alexandra when the prospect of a distinctive, mature vintage rosé is what makes the occasion.
With a 2004 Champagne, provenance and bottle condition deserve serious consideration. Check where the wine has been stored, whether the seller has clear release and format information, and how the bottle has been handled. The same cuvée name in a different vintage is not an interchangeable purchase. Nor should anyone assume that every surviving bottle has developed in precisely the same way.
This is a Champagne to bring to the table rather than rush through as an aperitif. Pour it into a white-wine glass and allow it to open gradually. Its rosé character makes it a natural candidate for a carefully planned meal, perhaps with roast duck or a savoury dish that can stand beside a mature wine without dominating it. Taste the particular bottle before deciding on a final pairing; vintage development is part of the interest.
Alexandra Rosé 2004 is for the buyer who values a precise harvest, an established Champagne house and the individuality of a mature bottle. Its appeal lies in drinking an identifiable vintage, not merely in opening a prestigious label.
