Champagne Liébart-Régnier is a family grower in the Vallée de la Marne, created in 1960 by Lucien Liébart and Georgette Régnier. The current generation is Laurent and Valérie Liébart with their daughters Alexandra and Marion.

The family owns 11 hectares divided into 35 parcels on both sides of the Marne, principally in Vauciennes and Baslieux-sous-Châtillon. The estate achieved HVE Level 3 in 2015, Viticulture Durable en Champagne certification in 2018, and the vineyard is now certified organic, with the current catalogue recording certification from 2023.

Liébart-Régnier is unusually broad in grape material. The family grows all seven traditional Champagne varieties: Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.

Why this producer matters

The distinctive feature is not simply the 11-hectare family holding but the way it is used. Liébart-Régnier combines a conventional Vallée de la Marne core with a serious programme around Champagne's rarer authorised grapes, including single-variety and mixed-variety parcel wines.

That gives readers a practical way to compare familiar Meunier-led blends with Petit Meslier, Arbane and Pinot Blanc without leaving one estate.

Vineyards and cellar approach

The two principal sectors are geologically different. Vauciennes, on the left bank, includes lighter calcareous soils with sand and sandstone, while Baslieux-sous-Châtillon, on the right bank, has richer marl, clay and limestone with warmer south-facing exposures.

The estate can vinify parcels separately in temperature-controlled tanks and oak casks. The current range therefore moves from broad multi-parcel blends into single-parcel wines where grape and site are deliberately isolated.

Current and meaningful cuvées

Les Sols Bruns Brut is the most useful starting point. The current technical sheet is based on the 2022 harvest, with 60% Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, plus 38% reserve wine from earlier years, stainless-steel vinification and 5 g/L dosage.

The classic range also includes Rosé, Blancs de Blanche Chardonnay, Excelia 2018 and Confidencia.

The parcel wines are the estate's most distinctive area. Sur le Grand Marais is a 100% Meunier Brut Nature from a south-facing Baslieux-sous-Châtillon parcel. L'Enclos is a 100% Petit Meslier wine from a historic east-facing Vauciennes parcel and is currently finished at zero dosage.

Hortï is an especially unusual mixed-variety wine from the Les Jardins parcel in Vauciennes, combining Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc. The current catalogue records the 2020 release as Extra Brut after barrel vinification and extended lees ageing.

The same L'Enclos site also produces a Coteaux Champenois Petit Meslier, which should remain separate from the sparkling Champagne range.

Liébart-Régnier is best understood as an estate with two layers. The first is a recognisable Vallée de la Marne family style built around Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The second is a more exploratory parcel programme that uses rare grapes not as curiosities but as serious individual wines.

That rare-grape work is much more meaningful now that the entire vineyard is certified organic: the farming programme and the varietal experimentation form one coherent estate identity rather than two unrelated marketing stories.

Start with Les Sols Bruns to understand the classic family style. Move to Sur le Grand Marais for pure Meunier, L'Enclos for Petit Meslier, and Hortï for the most unusual multi-variety expression.

Keep exact vintage, dosage and élevage tied to the bottle or current technical sheet. The estate makes both Champagne and Coteaux Champenois under related parcel names, so check the appellation as well as the cuvée name.
