Nicolas Gueusquin is a modern Champagne house built by its founder rather than inherited through generations of maison history. Trained in agronomy at Dijon and later in business at Reims, Nicolas Gueusquin created Les Roches Blanches in Dizy in 1994 after working in agricultural cooperatives and viticultural finance. The business subsequently expanded into a much larger production base at Oiry, at the entrance to the Côte des Blancs.

The current Union des Maisons de Champagne record identifies Gueusquin as chief executive and gives a 13-hectare vineyard estate on a consolidated Les Roches Blanches basis, alongside grower partnerships. Julien Lefevre is the current cellar master and David Chaboche the oenologist. The house therefore combines its own vineyard base with external grape supply rather than operating as a single-estate grower.

The Nicolas Gueusquin range remains deliberately compact. Current trade listings show six cuvées: Brut, Brut Premier Cru, Blanc de Blancs Brut Premier Cru, Rosé Brut Premier Cru, Millésime 2020 Brut Premier Cru and Prestige Brut.

Why this producer matters

Nicolas Gueusquin represents a different model from the small terroir-led growers that dominate much of contemporary Champagne discussion. The company was designed from the outset around control of production, scale and distribution, with modern cellar infrastructure and a straightforward commercial range.

The Blanc de Blancs Brut Premier Cru is the obvious choice if Chardonnay is the priority, while Rosé Brut Premier Cru covers the rosé category. Millésime 2020 Brut Premier Cru makes most sense when you want a wine tied to a declared harvest, and Prestige Brut is the bottle to seek for the top tier. With older stock, check whether a bottle labelled Tradition corresponds to the current Brut Premier Cru lineage rather than assuming the names are interchangeable across every release.
