Benoît Lahaye Rosé de Maceration Extra Brut
Benoît Lahaye Rosé de Maceration Extra Brut is a structured, vinous rosé Champagne from Bouzy, combining maceration with vivid strawberry and raspberry fruit and a notably fresh finish.
Benoît Lahaye Rosé de Maceration Extra Brut is a rosé for drinkers who want something more serious than a delicately coloured aperitif. Made by maceration, it is described as structured and full-bodied, with wild strawberry, raspberry and rose-petal notes leading into a fresh, lightly minty finish. The overall impression is firmly vinous: this is Champagne with enough shape and fruit concentration to belong at the table.
The wine comes from Benoît Lahaye, the small Bouzy grower whose domaine extends across Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tauxières on the Montagne de Reims. Pinot Noir is central to the estate, and Lahaye has become particularly well known for a long-established organic and biodynamic approach in the vineyard. The domaine moved fully into organic farming in 2003, gained Ecocert certification from the 2007 harvest and has practised biodynamics since 2009.
That farming identity is matched by an intentionally hands-off cellar direction. The bottle description notes that half of the wine is aged in amphorae, an unusual detail that helps distinguish this rosé from more conventional house styles. The aim is not to make the vessel itself the flavour, but to preserve the wine’s fruit and texture while allowing it to develop breadth.
The Extra Brut designation keeps the style firmly on the dry side, which suits the depth of fruit. Strawberry and raspberry provide immediate appeal, while the maceration method gives the wine a more substantial rosé character than a simple blended pink Champagne. It should work particularly well with food: duck, charcuterie, roast poultry, grilled mushrooms, richer fish dishes and soft cheeses are all sensible matches.
Serve it in a white-wine glass rather than a narrow flute and allow it a little air. For buyers exploring grower Champagne from Bouzy, this is an especially compelling bottle because it brings several of Lahaye’s signatures together at once: rosé by maceration, a dry Extra Brut profile, vivid red fruit and a cellar approach that includes amphora ageing. It is a distinctive, gastronomic rosé with genuine personality rather than simply a celebratory colour.
