Bruno Paillard Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut
Bruno Paillard Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut is an Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs drawn from four Grand Cru sources, giving the family-owned Reims house a black-grape counterpart to its Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru.
Bruno Paillard Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut has a very clear role in the range: it is the house’s black-grape Grand Cru expression, drawn from four Grand Cru sources and positioned as the natural counterpoint to Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru.
That makes it an easy bottle to understand even before you get into the wider Bruno Paillard story. The maison was founded in Reims in 1981 by Bruno Paillard and remains independent and family-owned. Alice Paillard joined the business in 2007 and took direction of the Maison in 2018, while Bruno Paillard remains president.
The house’s identity rests on a series of deliberate decisions made early in its life. A perpetual reserve was established in 1985, and Bruno Paillard began printing the disgorgement date on every bottle from 1983. Those choices became part of the producer’s signature long before transparency around disgorgement became widespread in Champagne.
Today the Maison owns around 25 hectares of vineyard, supplying roughly half of its grape requirements, with the balance coming from long-standing grower partners. That combination of estate fruit and wider sourcing gives the producer access to a broad palette of Champagne origins while retaining meaningful vineyard control.
Within the range, Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut is the bottle to choose when black grapes are the priority. Première Cuvée Extra-Brut remains the broadest introduction to the house, while Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru shifts the focus entirely to white grapes. D:Z is the more specific choice for zero dosage, and Cuvée 72 explores longer maturation within a multi-vintage framework. The vintage wines and N.P.U. sit in different territory again.
For a buyer building a mixed Bruno Paillard case, this Blanc de Noirs earns its place through contrast. Its identity is simple and useful: Extra Brut, Blanc de Noirs and four Grand Cru sources, all within the precise, independent house style that has defined Bruno Paillard since the early 1980s.
