Gallimard Les Riceys Cuvée Réserve
Gallimard Les Riceys Cuvée Réserve is a Pinot Noir Champagne from a six-generation Côte des Bar family domaine, with the available 375ml half-bottle offering an approachable way to explore the estate’s black-grape style.
Gallimard Les Riceys Cuvée Réserve brings the southern Champagne village of Les Riceys into focus. This is the home of the Gallimard family, whose vineyards lie in the Côte des Bar rather than the better-known northern Champagne districts. The cuvée is made from Pinot Noir, a fitting introduction to a producer whose range moves confidently between black-grape Champagne, Chardonnay and more specialised cellar projects.
Gallimard is a six-generation domaine, now associated with Didier and Arnaud Gallimard. The family’s sense of place is important here. Les Riceys is unusual in having a separate still-wine appellation, Rosé des Riceys, alongside its sparkling Champagne production. It is worth knowing the difference: Gallimard Cuvée Réserve is Champagne, not the village’s still rosé wine.
The Pinot Noir focus gives this bottle a clear identity within the range. Buyers wanting to explore another grape can look to Grande Réserve Chardonnay, while Amphoressence provides a route into the estate’s work with terracotta amphorae. Rosé de Saignée is a separate sparkling rosé choice. These wines are not interchangeable simply because they share the Gallimard name; the grape, method and intended style each bring a different proposition.
The 375ml half-bottle is especially useful. It allows two people to open Champagne with supper without committing to a standard 75cl bottle, and it is a convenient format for trying a grower for the first time. Do remember that bottle size is part of the product identity when comparing prices: a half-bottle and a full bottle should not be judged by their headline price alone.
At the table, the wine is a natural candidate for roast chicken, a savoury tart or a carefully prepared mushroom dish. Those are broad pairing suggestions rather than a claim about the exact release’s flavours. Serve it cool and enjoy it as a wine in its own right, not just as an opening glass.
Choose Cuvée Réserve for its straightforward link between Pinot Noir and Les Riceys. It is an accessible entry into a family estate with a much wider range, and the smaller format makes that first exploration particularly easy.
