Louis Massing Mineralis — Façon Brut
Louis Massing Mineralis — Façon Brut is a Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs blending Chardonnay from Avize with Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a welcoming introduction to this Côte des Blancs family house.
Mineralis — Façon Brut is the natural first bottle to open when discovering Louis Massing. It places Chardonnay and Grand Cru origins at the heart of the experience, drawing principally on Avize with contributions from Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This is a Champagne designed to introduce the house's Côte des Blancs identity without requiring the more specialised methods or single-parcel distinctions found elsewhere in the collection.
The currently described release has a dosage of 9 grams per litre. Its early development includes six months on lees in stainless steel, followed by at least 24 months of bottle ageing. These details establish a clear approach: a Chardonnay-centred blend with a familiar Brut profile, shaped through controlled cellar work and enough time in bottle to develop beyond the youngest stage of Champagne.
Louis Massing is a family producer based in Avize, with a vineyard estate of around eleven hectares and additional fruit from neighbouring classified villages. The family uses both temperature-controlled vats and casks, allowing wines to be handled separately before blending. That flexibility explains why the range can explore quite different ideas without losing its strong connection to the Côte des Blancs.
Façon Brut should be considered the reference point, rather than simply one step on a ladder of increasingly expensive wines. Mineralis Façon Nature allows a comparison in which dosage is the principal change. Arcanae looks towards solera-style reserves and longer maturation, while the Terranum wines take the conversation into particular parcels and vineyard sites. Mineralis itself is valuable because it keeps the focus broad and accessible.
At the table, consider it with roast chicken, a light cheese tart or vegetable dishes that allow Chardonnay to remain in the foreground. It would also make an appealing aperitif for guests who enjoy a classic Brut style with a clear regional identity. Serve in a proper wine glass and allow the bottle to develop as you drink it.
Choose Mineralis — Façon Brut to begin with Louis Massing's Avize-rooted Chardonnay world; the rest of the range becomes easier to appreciate once you know this foundation.
