Morel Cuvée Gabriel

Morel Cuvée Gabriel is the Chardonnay-led counterpoint within a domaine otherwise strongly associated with Pinot Noir and Les Riceys. Morel Père & Fils is a family grower in the Côte des Bar village, with more than five generations of local vineyard history and an eight-hectare estate planted predominantly to Pinot Noir. Gabriel is therefore the bottle to choose when Chardonnay is the priority. The cuvée is 100% Chardonnay and is presented as a Blanc de Blancs. Part of the wine is raised in oak, with at least 36 months on lees and an 8 g/L dosage. That Chardonnay focus is notable because the Morel vineyard is around 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. All grapes come from the family's own vineyards around Les Riceys, so Cuvée Gabriel offers a deliberately narrow view of a domaine whose wider identity is much more Pinot-led. Today Pascal, Émilie and Simon Morel run the domaine, combining vineyard work, winemaking and sales within the same family business. Gabriel is the Chardonnay-focused bottle within the collection and provides a clear contrast to the estate's Pinot-led wines. The rest of the range moves in different directions, including rosé, drier Pinot-led wines and site-specific bottlings, so Gabriel has an unusually clear role as the estate's Chardonnay reference. Choose Gabriel when you specifically want Morel's Chardonnay side rather than the producer's more Pinot-led expressions. The combination of pure Chardonnay, partial oak ageing and extended lees time also gives the bottle a distinct technical identity within a range otherwise shaped by the estate's strong Pinot Noir heritage.
